Yard Waste Dumpster Rental in Detroit, MI

Yard waste dumpster rental is for the clean-ups that are too big for the curb: a storm that brought trees down, a lot being cleared for a build, an overgrown property, hedges and stumps coming out, or a landscaping tear-out with old sod, gravel and timbers. We deliver a 10, 15 or 20-yard container, you fill it, and we haul it.
Michigan keeps yard waste out of landfills by law (MCL 324.11514), so a green-waste-only container goes to a permitted composting or yard-waste site instead, which is why we ask you to keep brush and general debris in separate boxes where you can. Sod, soil and gravel are heavy and go in a 10-yard, loaded level with the rail.
Branches, brush, leaves, hedge trimmings, stumps, logs, sod, soil, gravel, mulch, old fencing, deck boards, landscape timbers and pavers. Keep green waste and general debris in separate containers where you can: a clean load of trimmings goes to a yard-waste site, and a mixed load of leaves and drywall has to go to the landfill as construction debris, where the yard waste is not supposed to be. Keep hazardous items out: pesticides, pool chemicals and fuel go to the City’s household hazardous waste drop-off, not the container.
Detroit’s DPW collects yard waste at the curb from the end of March to mid-December in paper bags and bundles under 50 pounds and four feet, and residents can drop brush and yard waste free at the Southfield Yard on Southfield Road and the Davison Yard on West Davison, Monday to Saturday. That is enough for a normal weekend’s trimming. A container makes sense when the pile would take months to clear at the curb, when you have stumps, sod or soil the curb will not take, or when the job has to be done this week. The suburbs run their own curbside yard-waste seasons; Warren, Southfield and Ferndale all list what they will and will not collect.
After a storm we prioritise the calls with trees down and roofs open. A 20-yard container swallows a large yard’s worth of limbs; call before noon and we can often deliver the same day across Detroit and the inner suburbs. If a tree has taken a fence or a shed with it, tell us and we will size the box for the mixed load.

- Can I mix yard waste with other junk? You can, but Michigan bars yard waste from landfills beyond a small amount, so a mixed load is treated as construction debris and a clean green load goes to a yard-waste site. Tell us the rough split and we will sort the boxes and price it the best way.
- Do stumps and logs go in?Yes. Michigan’s definition of construction debris even includes trees and stumps over four feet long from a site clearing. They are heavy, so tell us how many and we will pick the size and the allowance to suit.
- Is there a cheaper option for a small pile? For a normal weekend’s trimming, Detroit’s curbside yard-waste collection or a free drop at the Southfield or Davison DPW yard is the cheapest route. A container is for the big jobs.
- Can the container go on the lawn?Yes, though it will leave marks and the truck needs firm ground. Most people put it on the driveway and carry the brush to it.
