Residential Dumpster Rental in Detroit, MI

Our residential dumpster rental is the container most Detroit homeowners call about: a 10, 15 or 20-yard roll-off dropped on the driveway for a garage or basement cleanout, a kitchen or bathroom remodel, a move, or the estate of a family member. One flat price covers delivery, the rental period, pickup and a disposal weight allowance, and we quote it before the truck rolls.

Household cleanup dumpsters are built for the way a home job actually goes: a few days of filling, a weekend push, then a call to have it hauled. You choose the dates and we place the container where you want it, with boards under the rails if your driveway needs protecting.

What a home dumpster rental in Detroit is used for

Cleanouts are the most common job: basements and attics full of thirty years of boxes, rental units between tenants around Wayne State and Midtown, and whole-house cleanouts after a move or a death in the family. A 15 or 20-yard container handles most of them in one go.

Remodels are next. A kitchen or bathroom tear-out, old flooring and carpet, plaster and lath from a 1920s two-flat on the east side, drywall and trim from a basement finish in Rosedale Park, or a deck coming down all fit a 10 to 20-yard box. If you are taking a roof off, tell us: shingles are heavy and we size for weight, not just volume.

We also deliver for storm clean-up, shed and fence tear-downs, and the spring purge from Grandmont and Warrendale to Jefferson Chalmers, Dearborn and the Grosse Pointes. If it is coming out of a house in Metro Detroit, we have a container for it.

Where the container goes

Most residential dumpsters go on the driveway. In Detroit the City’s own guideline says a roll-off goes on your property and that a street or berm placement needs a Department of Public Works permit; that permit is a City Engineering right-of-way permit which, under City Code Sec. 42-2-54, the hauler holds rather than the customer, so we file it (2 Woodward Avenue, Suite 642, (313) 224-3935) when a box has to sit in the street. An unpermitted obstruction can cost up to $500 and 90 days a day under Sec. 43-8-1.

The suburbs are different at every boundary: Dearborn caps a residential dumpster at seven cumulative days in 180 unless a building permit is open, Grosse Pointe Park allows five days on a driveway by permission of Public Services, Hamtramck and Highland Park charge $25 for five days in the street, Royal Oak wants a $130 permit and a $2,000 bond, and Warren, Southfield, Sterling Heights and Taylor publish no dumpster permit at all. Our service-area pages spell out each one.

What can go in a household cleanup dumpster

Furniture, boxes, clothing, toys, carpet, flooring, drywall, lumber, cabinets, fixtures and general junk are all fine. Michigan keeps some things out of every landfill by statute (MCL 324.11514): whole tires, yard waste and beverage containers in more than tiny amounts, medical waste, used oil, lead-acid batteries, liquids, hazardous waste, PCBs and asbestos that has not been handled under the federal rules. Refrigerators and air conditioners need the refrigerant recovered first, and paint, solvents and chemicals go to the City’s household hazardous waste drop-off at 2000 East Ferry (Thursdays 7:30 to 2, fourth Saturdays 8 to 2) rather than a container. Our guide to what stays out lists the rest and where each item goes.

Residential Dumpster Rental FAQ
  • How much does a residential dumpster rental cost in Detroit?
We quote one flat price on the phone based on the size and what is going in it. It covers delivery, the rental period, pickup and the disposal weight allowance. Call (313) 397-0178 and you will have a number before you hang up.
  • Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
We place boards under the container rails on request, and our drivers set the box down rather than dragging it. Tell us if your driveway is new or decorative concrete and we will plan around it.
  • How long can I keep a home dumpster?
As long as your project needs in Detroit and most suburbs; most household jobs run three to seven days. Dearborn and the Grosse Pointes put day limits on a driveway container, so tell us the town and we set the dates to fit.
  • Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
No. Mark the spot or send us a photo, and we will place it exactly where you asked. Make sure nothing is parked in front of the container on pickup day.
